Ugandan President Museveni and Scott Lively Play Gay

DECLARING UGANDA A CHRISTIAN NATION IN PREPARATION FOR THE ANTI-GAY -KILL THE GAYS- BILL

By Melanie Nathan, November 24, 2012.

On October 9 Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda had a moment playing God. He declared Uganda cleansed of all its sins.  And now by a stroke of the despots pray all but one ill of Uganda is declared repented. The remaining scourge is of course that of the homosexual’s existence and therein lies the final solution, of a Parliament next week that will debate the Anti-Homosexuality Bill and a President who could offer his procedural “assent.”

Uganda’s New Vision News reports:  “The President made this historic move at Mandela National stadium Namboole in the early morning of today (Tuesday) at 2:00am during national prayers for dedicating Uganda to God.

“I denounce witchcraft and satanic practices. I repent on behalf of Uganda. We confess our sins. We repent of the sins of shedding innocent blood, corruption, bribery, sexual immorality, drunkenness, rebellion, insubordination, tribalism and sectarianism,” Museveni repented amidst ululations from the Christians.  “   (http://www.newvision.co.ug/news/636210-museveni-dedicates-uganda-to-god.html)

Enter Scott Lively, the MA based pastor. On March 14, 2012, the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Sexual Minorities Uganda, a non-profit umbrella organization for LGBT advocacy groups in Uganda, against Abiding Truth Ministries President Scott Lively. Filed in the United States District Court in Springfield, Massachusetts, the suit alleges that Lively’s involvement in anti-gay efforts in Uganda, including his active participation in the conspiracy to strip away fundamental rights from LGBT persons, constitutes persecution. This is the first known Alien Tort Statute (ATS) case seeking accountability for persecution on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. On Nov 14, Lively announced in a Press Release the formation of a committee to explore the possibility of his run for the governorship of Massachusetts. Lively announced ;

That he has successfully organized a large network of Christians from a variety of local churches who now regularly cooperate together to carry on inner-city outreach and evangelism mission, announcing that “The mission’s most visible impact on the city has been its TRUST JESUS Campaign, which encourages all the Christians of the area to unify around that simple Gospel message and display it publicly. Lively also announced he launched a new effort called the King Josiah Project to begin challenging movements and ideologies in Massachusetts which he perceives as being most responsible for the moral and economic degeneration of Springfield and the state. These include in order of destructiveness: The abortion industry, the homosexual movement, the public education system, corrupt elements in state government, and a broken social welfare system that breeds dependency instead of rebuilding lives.” The Press statement goes on to note that “As he has done in other states and nations for more than 20 years, Pastor Lively will engage in social activism in Springfield and around the state to rally Christians and other social conservatives to oppose these social ills and to attempt to cure them through a return to biblical values.  www.defendthefamily.com  If, in the course of these efforts, his exploratory committee determines that a run for governor would complement the larger purpose of turning Massachusetts back to God, Pastor Lively will enter the race to win the governorship.”

Yesterday, I sent Lively an e-mail asking if now that the Anti-Homosexuality Bill is coming to the Ugandan Parliament next week for a vote, whether passage of the Bill will have any impact on his bid for the MA governorship?

In response to my question Lively said:

“I expect that the passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill will agitate my opponents here in Massachusetts since they have falsely accused me of masterminding it since it was first introduced in 2009. However, it will not influence my decision on whether or not to run, since I can easily document that their accusations are baseless. And on the positive side, the controversy surrounding this will likely engender curiosity among the voters about what are my actual views on this issue, something I welcome and will benefit from, since what I actually believe and teach is substantially different from what my detractors claim.”

Just when Lively was trying to have us believe that he has nothing to do with the Anti-homosexuality Bill, perhaps out of fear of the lawsuit, we find this coincidental insertion – call it an appearance – in an article today, Nov 24 where Lively gets explicit about his thoughts on Museveni and the question of homosexuality in Uganda. Not even Leonard Bernstein could have orchestrated such perfect timing. Breaking news from October delivered  in November, as if it just happened.

The article, by journalist and fellow Pastor Michael Carl for  WNFaith online magazine, referred  to Museveni’s declaration of repentance which occurred back on Oct 09 and features Lively comments in an  extensive and clearly orchestrated commentary:-

“Massachusetts pastor and activist Rev. Scott Lively believes Museveni is a model for other national leaders.

“The Museveni prayer is a model for all Christian leaders in the world. The leaders of the West have declined in proportion to their degree of rejection of God,” Lively said.

Lively also believes Uganda will rise as a major African power as America continues to decline. He uses Britain as an example.

“Britain was at its height as a world power when it honored God as the Ugandan president has just done. America’s greatness has similarly diminished as we have shifted from a Christian to a secular-humanist country. But watch now for Uganda to be blessed by God for their desire to be His,” Lively said.

Lively added that Museveni is definitely drawing a contrast between Uganda and the West.

“This incident is also important as a contrast to the picture being painted of Uganda by the godless left of a backwards, violent and savage culture intent on murdering homosexuals,” Lively said.

“On the contrary, Museveni is calmly and confidently setting the course of his nation by the guidance of the Bible, in a way that also shows great courage and resolve,” Lively said.

The government of Uganda could not be reached for comment on this story.

Lively said he didn’t agree with the death penalty provision but supports the nation’s strong stance against homosexual behavior.”

Pride comes before the fall – and so perhaps it will as Lively so clearly inserts himself and his moral motives into the Ugandan narrative just when he is trying to abstract himself from the full extent of his involvement.  However  ego could not let go of  opportunity in what is tantamount to a declaration of victory for his Uganda efforts.  So while he thinks he has distanced himself he has in truth (kindly pardon the expression) hung himself.

Together with the evidence of the workshops and the Vanguard Video*, taken in Uganda when he initially incited the Ugandans with his misinformation about homosexuality,  where Lively openly  lies  precipitating the Kill the Gays Bill, this article continues to provide Lively’s declaration of his motive.

Here Lively is pretending that the new decision to drop the Kill part of the Kill the Gays Bill has always been the intent.   He is trying to divorce himself from the harm the ‘Kill’ part already caused to gays before its was dropped in terms of the rhetoric and the persecution that already resulted, even before the bill was set to pass.  Its mere debate and public discourse caused the harm and Lively actively promoted it in media.

He has aligned himself, and continues to provide his motive and a clear picture as to the reason for his participation in promoting and precipitating the Uganda anti-Homosexuality Bill.  This statement in this article could be used against Lively in the impending lawsuit.

Lively and his kind are losing the war against homosexuality in America and he believes that Uganda will serve as basis for proof that if a country gets rid of the homosexuals it will become a model society.  He believes that the hand of God will protect the country that rids itself of homosexuals.

This article pulls it all together as Museveni and Scott Lively act like lovers in symbiotic fondling;  Museveni provides Lively with his victory cry and Lively provides Museveni with his scapegoat from the real ills of Uganda, which have all but been dealt with.  The mere call to God has done nothing to rid Uganda of its corruption, poverty and despotism. The ploy continues and the gays are still the scapegoat.

If Museveni refuses to assent to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in terms of Ugandan parliamentary protocols or does not exert his influence NOW to ensure it is not passed, the legacy of the Bill will always be the back scratch between the extremist buffoon and the despot.

*P.S. Note:- Lively has actually called for the death penalty of gays, saying in the film “The Missionaries of Hate,” that death is the lesser of two evils for homosexuals.  Also at 3:08 in this video is where he says “lesser of two evils” at http://current.com/shows/vanguard/92455052_scott-lively-father-of-ugandas-pro-family-movement-vanguard-extended-interview.htm. Now suddenly he is pretending he is against the death penalty for gays.  What Lively does not realize is that his footprint is so well embedded that his attempts to back peddle at this stage are futile.

“America’s greatness has similarly diminished as we have shifted from a *Christian to a secular-humanist country. ”

    Oh bollocks!

If America’s “greatness” has diminished, it’s due to greedy corporations & corrupt gov’t officials- and has nothing at all to do with religion.

This is the now-common, water-muddying that the evangelicals ALWAYS try- the ridiculous, flawed, pseudo-logic attempting to wrongly connect events in order to support their hateful views. Lively appears to me to be nothing more than a garden-variety, possibly disordered, narcissist. They require an unending supply of attention- good or bad. Churches seem to have cornered the market in these nut-jobs lately.

*Someone let Lively know that the founders of the USA were deists, won’t you?

This lovely man has an office near ours in Springfield. We had a gas explosion on Friday. Apparently Lively is praying for the destruction of any institutions that offend his moral sensibility. His most recent post includes: “Yesterday the three story Scores strip club on Worthington Street was completely obliterated in a gas explosion, right down to the ground. I believe this was the hand of God at work in answer to our prayers.”
