Americans among bigots speaking out for hate and homophobia in Jamaica

By Cathy Kristofferson, December 8, 2013

jamcoalhsThis past weekend American, British and Canadian evangelicals were busy in Jamaica spreading hate and homophobia as they urged the country’s leaders not to repeal their colonial era anti-sodomy “buggery law”. The Christian Evangelicals and lobbyists were attending The Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society International Human Rights conference entitled “International Law and the Welfare of the Family: The Impact of the Secular Worldview on Children” to speak about the slippery slope of The Gay Agenda, its links to pedophilia, and how gays are made not born.

Among the list of the conference speakers are Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH), the Alliance Defense Fund, and Alliance Defending Freedom.

While standing in Jamaica, Peter LeBarbera, president of the SPLC-designated hate group AFTAH, pleaded with the attendees not to be “lured” by those from other countries into repealing the left behind colonial penal code – the sheer hypocrisy probably lost on his bigoted brain.

“We are all watching Jamaica to see what happens (buggery law), and I believe if Jamaica can stand up and not bow to the pressure, you can be an example to the world.”

“Do not be like us, do not be like Britain, do not sit idly by as so-called ‘LGBT activists’ manipulate words and laws to achieve dominance in your country,”

Peter LaBarbera

Sounds very Lively-esque who has himself urged Uganda to be the one country to stand up against “The Gay Agenda” to pass their Kill-The-Gays-Bill and who has held Russia up as a model of family values for the world.

The Jamaican Supreme Court began hearing a challenge to the buggery law this June. Since then the nation TIME Magazine labeled “The Most Homophobic Place on Earth” has become even more dangerous for its LGBT community.  Violent homophobia has continued to escalate resulting in many attacks including multiple deaths. The “buggery law”, which dates back to 1864, is being challenged to determine if it breaches rights guaranteed under the Jamaican Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms which the challenger contends guarantees his right to privacy.

Currently Jamaica has no laws to prevent discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. There is also no law addressing hate crimes in Jamaica.

Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, has said the Jamaican Parliament will take up the issue of the buggery law this session, urging a “conscience vote” be held.

The conference this weekend is just another example of the desperation those who have lost the fight at home have causing them to feel the need to keep homophobia ranked high on the export list of the United States. How do we get a no-fly list for those with no purpose other than to incite violence wherever they travel?

Although I do wonder with our “achieved dominance” here in the United States, as described by LaBarbera, why it is that we ‘LGBT activists’ can’t even get a fully-inclusive religious-bigotry-free employment non-discrimination bill passed, never mind get on with enjoying our Constitutionally guaranteed “liberty and justice for all”.

The new film “The Abomidable Crime” documents the struggles of LGBT Jamaicans. It provides a good view of the world the likes of Peter LeBarbera feel they need to tread:

Never ends, does it? Like the proverbial “bump in the tire cartoon” … you get one taken care of and it pops somewhere else!! Reblog …

…and why do they they always seem to be slightly balding, portly, middle-aged white guys???

My theory is: they’re either simple psychopathic bullies (the pulls-wings-off-flies as a kid sort), or total closet-cases who are frightened of their own shadows (or both?).

Imagine jumping on a plane with the sole purpose of turning people against their own countrymen? You’re right, Melanie- we def need a “no-fly” list for these haters.
