The BBC is reporting that the first of the men recently arrested on charges of homosexuality in Nigeria has been sentenced and now received 20 lashes by the Islamic Court in the Bauchi state of Nigeria.  Apparently, the man was spared death by stoning because the offense occurred 7 years ago and the man has now renounced his ‘homosexuality’.

Yesterday it was reported that the trial of two of the other 12 men – 11 Muslims and 1 Christian – caught up in the recent flurry of arrests preceding the signing into law of the so-called Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill has been adjourned until January 23rd. What will be their fate?

No information has been made available for the other 9 men arrested.  Nor is status of the as-yet-not-arrested men on the list 168 obtained through torture known.

I wonder if this is what Scott Lively, Brian Camenker, Rick Warren and all those other Christian Evangelicals had in mind when they spread their hate & lies through the world resulting in this homophobic hysteria and persecution.

Today the European Union passed a very strong resolution condemning new anti-gay laws in Uganda, Nigeria, India and Russia. Will those countries even notice?

Publisher’s Note:

When are the U.S. LGBT and human rights organizations going to protest the atrocities of “guilty by gay”? What are we we waiting for – the next guilty verdict to include death by stoning?
