    hi
We are a binational lesbian couple living in exile in Spain. We are legally married here, but after 4 years, still yearn for our frinds, family and professional lives in the Bay Area. We will celebrate 14 years together this summer, and would love to celebrate with our frinds and family in the US. We would love to share our experience if it would help get the word out. Last year a graduate student from Columbia University School of Journalism came to stay with us for a week to hear our story. he never found anyone to purchase his story after he graduated. i guess the timing was wrong…if we can help by sharing our story of exile, please contact me at this email address. thanks for your dedication
    sincerely

A disgusting old lady advocating repulsive and disgusting acts. Give it up, Ma’am. You should focus on enjoying your old age in peace. Just as the world has smoking and non smoking areas, the world equally needs gay and non gay countries. Those who want to practice sodomy can go to Spain, Belgium or anywhere else where the practice is allowed. You can’t impose your beliefs on everyone. I only hope you aren’t a mother. It would be a shame to have little boys being told that it’s okay for them to spread their butts for their male classmates at school. Can’t you even hear how repulsive this sounds? And yet it’s normal to you.

LoL. Please feel free to practice this in South Africa and in the US. However, allow other countries to run their own affairs. Thank you.

    • Melanie Nathan January 14, 2014 at 9:54 AM #

Being gay is a natural human sexuality just as being straight is. I do not define you by the act of sex or by the behavior of sex. You should understand that gays do not get defined by their acts of sex. So my friend get some education on the topic. What being gay means is having someone who you love of the same-sex. What you do in your bedroom is private. being straight is having someone who you love of a different sex and what you do in your bedroom is private. So my friend we are all the same – it is only a matter of who is your partner? What are you so afraid of. Being gay cannot spread. you are either gay or straight. And there are some bisexuals. But that is about it. Nigeria needs to look at its real problems, Like rape, economy, trafficking etc. Grow up ..

Wow, nattiest was just plain nasty.
You are a Beacon dear lady. Advocacy is essential in empowering those that cannot raise their voices. Blessed be the peacemakers.
I’m a single transwoman and mom to an eleven year old daughter here in Northern California, at least one other sixth grade parent is transgender at her school, one of the school bus drivers is a transwoman as well. At my college one day I got on the bus and along with an African transman ( i mention his being African because he is proud of it) as am I being Apache, Yaqui and Azteca, we were the only ones on the bus, two blocks later a transwoman got on the bus, now we were three, when we got to the transfer point we all got off and boarded another bus, along with the transwoman that was already there waiting at the stop. How often does this happen? All the time.
The human race is beautifully diverse, our gender and sexual identities are part of that beautiful diversity, that’s something to be proud of.

    • Nattiest February 20, 2014 at 8:21 AM #

Your sexual identity is something to be proud of. Your sexual identity is the one you got at birth. If you claim it’s something to be proud of, why did you change it? Born a man, now a woman. That’s just absolutely repulsive. Now I know people in America and Europe are cool with all this nonsense, that’s okay. Just keep your dirty laws to yourselves please. And oh, if you want Africans to join you, just grant them visas and permits and they’ll be all yours in no time. We Africans do not say one can’t be LGBT, we’re simply saying “you can’t be LGBT here, go do it elsewhere”. That’s only logical.

Oh, by the way Melanie, you want FIFA to boot Nigeria out of the World Cup? What have you got to say about Russia and the winter games? Or are they untouchable because they’re European?

      • Melanie Nathan February 20, 2014 at 10:12 AM #

Your comments about Transgender people show your extreme ignorance on the issue. Sexuality and gender identity are separate issues. get reading and wise up!

Do your homework – go to my search widget and type in Sochi and see what I said about boycotting Russia and the Sochi games…. clearly you have only read a fraction of my work…. Oh and why not start with this article:

10 Actions you can take against Russia | shocking video of Russian Gay Teen torture

by Melanie Nathan on July 26, 2013 in Advocacy & Activism, CRIME, LGBT, NEWS, Russia, VIDEO, WORLD

10 ways to STOP the Russian terror of Gays By Melanie Nathan, July 26, 2013. Anti-gay sentiment and violence against LGBTI people has been a Russian habit for some time. However in recent months it has escalated with lack of basic law and order, exacerbated by Vladamir Putin’s legislative onslaught through various laws that criminalize http://oblogdeeoblogda.me/2013/07/26/10-actions-you-can-take-against-russia-shocking-video-of-russian-gay-teen-torture/
its one of the first ones I wrote about boycotting SOCHI. I am not afraid of failing in my call for boycotts I am ONLY afraid of being amongst those who are silent…. Now stop using other countries as your excuse for inaction!!! Or as you reason to hate?

  11. James Imeh February 19, 2014 at 7:07 PM #

Im Nigerian, and I do not have any problem with gays. I dont discriminate against gay or homosexual people at all. I do have a problem with Melanie Nathan however. Your last blog on putting down Nigerians is wrong. You want Nigeria banned from World Cup due to its anti-gay laws. Anti-gay and discrimination is everywhere. The West is very cruel to Africa. Neo-colonialism, terrible media propoganda, exploitation of the african people. You dont care about Africa. Your just another white that continues to smear the name of our people in the mud, further demonizing the continent. Whites have done a lot of evils, but its usually swept under the rug or minimilized, while what africans do, are often written over and over in bold letters. LGBT africans, this woman is not your friend. She is further just painting a destructive image of africa. Her article was very condescending. The whites do so much evil to africans, but they are the ones controlling the media.

    • Melanie Nathan February 19, 2014 at 8:10 PM #

I am African born my friend. And I care very deeply about Africa. I supported the Apartheid boycotts in sport, I called for boycott of SOCHI and those were all white people in the snow and now I want to see Nigeria booted out by FIFA, because President Goodluck Jonathan signed a brand new much more onerous law to hurt my beloved LGBT Nigerian family. Now you may pretend to be okay with gays, (“m Nigerian, and I do not have any problem with gays. I dont discriminate against gay or homosexual people at all.”) James, but what have you done to advocate against the JAIL THE GAYS BILL? The Sharia stonings of gays? and what have you done to stop the unwarranted arrests against the good homosexual LGBT Gay people of Nigeria? You ought to be ashamed, – words to me mean nothing- how about doing something? You sit back and allow your government to persecute gays and yell at me while I am fighting for a minority amongst your own people? And I agree with you those damn fcking colonialists ruined everything -in fact those damn fcking colonialists even brought homophobia and that awful murderous religion Christianity to Africa. Damn those colonialists. They really fucked things up. Damn them… and whats that other religion thats causing all the shit in Africa?

The ONLY thing that will rile up the Nigerians is to ban their soccer team. The Nigerians have said they dont care because they dont need anyone else, because they have all that oil. Well its not the West I am worried about – its the Nigerian LGBT people – …er… YOUR PEOPLE JAMES who are being beaten and run down by their own. DISGUSTING. So do not shit on me – shit on GOODLUCK JONATHAN>< And dont compare other countries becaus eonly Uganda and Nigeria have passed recent laws upping the ante on those damn colonial penal codes of decades bygone!!!!

  12. James Imeh February 19, 2014 at 7:18 PM #

Plus what does Nigeria’s national soccer team have to do with the government’s law.
Fifa does not allow the government to be involved in any affairs with the soccer team…
So what your saying doesnt make sense, its just an attempt to further demonize and destruct what was once a potential black superpower. The soccer players and soccer federation of Nigeria do not have anything to do with any of those gay laws. Political affairs and the the soccer federation of every country are seperated. This is even required by FIFA. Nigeria was very rich and prosperous back in the 1960′s, 70′s and early 80′s and was building up. We didnt need the West to end the violence in Liberia, nor did we need your permission in strongly advocating against apartheid in the 70′s.. Face it, an African Giant is a threat. Whites are all the same. You guys havent changed at all.

In the West, gays and other LGBT used to get persecuted the same way as in Nigeria and other third world countries. In Arab and middle eastern countries, gays get persecuted. In the west, the same thing happened. It wasnt until the last few decades, until people started gradually accepting gays in western society. What Nigerian says they dont care, beacuse of oil? Oil and gay rights are not the same. The people benefiting from the oil is mainly the Nigerian government.

        • Melanie Nathan February 20, 2014 at 7:23 AM #

YOU DONT GET IT DO YOU? The point about the oil is that the Nigerians say they do not need the west’s approval because they are oil rich and dont need us for our money in the form of AID. That is why they are quick to sign bills that contrary to the International Declaration of Human Rights. They do not care. BUT they do care about soccer and being isolated in sport. Hence it is a weapon that must be used against them? Comprehend?

      • James Imeh February 19, 2014 at 8:56 PM #

The intolerance being showed against gays in Nigeria is wrong, but thats how people have been intolerant to gays in every society around the world. The same way in China, but recently Chinese society has been gradually accepting gays. So this situation is not unique in any way to Nigeria. Its been everywhere

        • Melanie Nathan February 20, 2014 at 7:25 AM #

James BUT BUT BUT… the fact that gays are not tolerated elsewhere is no excuse for modern day new laws base don draconian thinking. Nothing yu have said justifies the fact that nigria is leading the pack in persecution with these new laws. Yeds ALL countries should ditch the old penal codes. But making new laws? Sick! And you my friend defend them – if you really cared about LGBT as oyu say you do you would speak out and also call on FIFA to act against Nigeria.
