Romney Would Veto Dream Act – AP Report buys into Anti-Immigrant Language

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Saturday that he would veto legislation that would allow certain “illegal residents” to become American citizens.

For a man who purports to be about family, this one is ready to separate children from parents, to send kids back to countries they do not know. Is he heartless or is he stupid; is he ill-informed or is he willing to sacrifice heart for votes?    All I can say is there will not be a single Hispanic or immigrant vote for this unhuman, I hope he gets the GOP nomination – he is toast!

“The answer is yes,” Romney said during a campaign stop here in western Iowa, when he was asked if he would refuse to sign what’s known as the DREAM Act.

Romney has said before that he would oppose the legislation, which would legalize some young undocumented immigrants if they attend college or serve in the military. But Saturday was the first time he’s explicitly said he would veto it.

Democrats immediately seized on Romney’s remarks. “Wrong on principle and politics,” David Axelrod, the Obama campaign’s top political adviser wrote on Twitter in response. The Democratic National Committee called Romney’s stance “appalling” in a written statement.

Immigration is likely to be a key issue in the general election, particularly in swing states like Florida, Nevada and Colorado, which have significant Hispanic populations. So let  Romney come out DREAMING he has already hung himself for the general election!

“If there had been doubt in anyone’s mind—least of all, Hispanics in America, that Mitt Romney’s far-right views on immigration would make him the most extreme presidential nominee in recent memory, his statement [Saturday] that he would veto the DREAM Act if he were president is appalling,” said Juan Sepluveda, the DNC’s Senior Advisor for Hispanic Affairs. “This piece of legislation has been supported by members of both parties.”

Romney said he would support provisions of the bill that allow people to earn permanent residency if they serve in the military, says the report.  Now THAT is acceptable! Then who cares ?  The USA could use some desperate immigrants as fodder for the next Bushesque; you know kill ‘em off anyway!

“I’m delighted with the idea that people who come to this country and wish to serve in the military can be given a path to become permanent residents of this country,” Romney said …wink wink!

He was campaigning just three days before the state’s Republican caucuses. A new poll shows Romney leading the field of GOP presidential candidates.

The most recent version of the DREAM Act would have provided a route to legal status for immigrants who were brought to the United States before age 16, have lived in the country for five years, graduated from high school or gained an equivalency degree and who joined the military or attend college.

The military ought not be a requirement – the DREAM Act is a humanitarian necessity and to place any conditions on it at all, is in my opinion, based on the severe hardship to youth, contrary to the basic human right that children ought to have proximity to immediate family.

Dream Act targets those brought to the country as children, and who in many cases consider themselves American, speak English and have no ties to their native countries.

I would also like to note that in the Associated Press  is using terminology that is not only politically incorrect, but politically horrific. If they were truly neutral in reporting, they would use “undocumented residents” especially for innocent youngsters who ought not have the word “illegal” attached to their status.  A P Article found at –   http://www.oregonlive.com/newsflash/index.ssf/story/romney-says-he-would-veto-dream-act/db5c439c409d4968a088d2d7024ceda8
