Screen Shot 2013-02-10 at 10.15.20 PMJanis Ian, the lesbian poet /singer, famed for that song about being seventeen or something – happened to beat out Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama and other of famed ilk, for a Grammy tonight.  Not sure if Ian is really (no I mean REALLY OUT as a lesbian.) But long ago we all kind of knew it. I must say with her talent and fame … well er… I am not sure if she has ever DONE anything for the LGBTI, gay, same-sex or whatever movement.
That is anything worthy … I mean… because wah, maybe she did something somewhere sometime…  I am trying to find it…. “google” help!@   a yah she did it she did Thank you Wikipedia or was that a Wiki leak?   “Janis Ian came out as a lesbian in 1993 with the worldwide release of her album Breaking Silence.”  she IS OUT , a lesbian Phew Okay so Lesbian wins Grammy and beats out Clinton, Obama …. that is news for the community…,right?!!!!!!

Very cool. I loved her song, “At 17.” Made a big impression on me as I was an “ugly” girl until I was 17, then blossomed. Glad to hear she’s still creating.

Geez, no one here is old enough to remember that Janis Ian wrote a really cool, really funny regular column for that out gay national publication, The Advocate? I’m not sure how long she wrote it (or how many years ago), but I know I dropped my subscription when she disappeared from their pages. If you go to the Advocate’s web site and do a search on Janis Ian, you’ll pull up more than a few articles. The woman is not, and has not been, closeted for many, many years. Please, don’t trash the political credentials of someone who was putting it out there _long_ before it was fashionable.

Read The Advocate articles and you were saying?
