Gay-hating Pastor Scott Lively finds new foothold in Oklahoma

Lively’s new mission is to secure the 1st amendment for religious bigotry

A year ago last April, some of us, ever vigilant on “Scott Lively Watch” and his rein of hate towards the gay community, were poised to warn those next in his path. So when we noticed that the anti-gay pastor was scheduled to do a 3-day training at Draper Park Christian Church Oklahoma City entitled “THE L.G.B.T. LONG CON– Its mission to neutralize Bible-based Christianity;  how it’s been done before & is succeeding now; & what you must do about it, ” the flares were fired and Kathy Baldock, the evangelical leader of Canyon Walkers Ministry, commented:

“As unaware and passive Christians sit in the isolating confines of their church homes and potlucks, the “ugly Jesus” is aggressively attacking. … By the end of Sunday night, April 29th, Scott Lively will have indoctrinated more people with fear and lies, cleverly duct taped together with some verses from the Bible.  His unholy war of sacred discrimination will inflict new damage to the gay community and the church in Oklahoma.”

Well, her prediction seems to have come true as one year later we see the result with the announcement that Oklahoma is giving rise to “Oklahomans for the 1st Amendment”.

It wasn’t hard to figure out who was responsible when the WND article announcing the group was entitled “FED-UP CHRISTIANS OUT TO DEFEAT ‘HOMOFASCISM'”.

Who is the person most famous for screaming ‘Homofascists’ on Boston Common?  Scott Lively, of course.  Last month on his blog Lively had decided the answer to the world’s homosexual woes was The First Amendment Supremacy Clause:

“Under no circumstance shall sexual orientation regulations supercede the First Amendment rights of individuals, churches and religious organizations to freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

For the purpose of this amendment religious organizations are those whose policies or culture are substantially influenced by religious values such as Christian bookstores, adoption agencies or hospitals, as well as companies like Hobby Lobby and Chick-Fil-A, social organizations like the Boy Scouts of America and Christian student clubs on college campuses.”

draperpkLively must have found sanctuary for his ideas in Oklahoma last April, as of his new effort – ‘Oklahomans for the 1st Amendment ‘- he tells WND “the effort was launched in Oklahoma for a number of reasons, including that the state is fairly conservative and the special “rights” for homosexuals still are a mostly new ideas there.”

OK41stLively is notorious for meddling in unchartered waters and setting the stage for gay hate.

On their website it says that Oklahomans for the 1st Amendment believe in the supremacy of the 1st Amendment and that the rights given by it have been given by God and not by the State.  (Some of us were unaware that God wrote the U.S. Constitution, but maybe that is an easy sell by those who Lively sees as his last resort in the ever-evolving U.S.A.)  As such they are looking for the following to be added to any non-discrimination ordinance in any city regulations (new and existing):

“In no circumstance shall sexual orientation regulations supersede the First Amendment rights of individuals, churches and religious organizations to freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion.”

So, a First Amendment right to bigotry and hatred.  I wonder if God gave them that too?

Seeking to derail a Human Rights Commission’s anti-discrimination regulations is nothing new for Scott Lively.  Last July he raised a “Christian Red Alert”calling a proposed ordinance in  Springfield,  Missouri a “Gay Fascism Bill“.

He rushed off to warn that town’s residents that their Commission’s proposed ordinance to proactively give their LGBT community job and housing protections was nothing more than a “Trojan Horse for the Gay Agenda” and to work with leaders there to defeat the bill.  Despite disgusting many who attended the public meeting of that Human Right’s Commission, the ordinance was tabled with no further action taken.

In all cases Scott Lively is of course claiming his 1st Amendment rights of speech and religion to persecute the LGBT community.  Whether it is his actions to squash a city ordinance, or his actions which result in legislation proposing the death penalty for gays as is happening in Uganda.  His defense in that ongoing Crimes Against Humanity lawsuit in the Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) v. Scott Lively case currently in Springfield Federal Court is based solely on his First Amendment right to express his views, the consequences of his actions be damned.

He has found the perfect platform for his particular form of hate — that is, hate masked as Christian love — limited to those who follow his (not His) rules. I left Oklahoma a half century ago; it had problems, but has deteriorated since then.
