Protests in UK

KUCHU DIASPORA ALLIANCE  (KDA), the group of Ugandan LGBT and allies, living in the United States, invites you to join in a critical protest on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 @2pm at the Uganda Consulate in Washington, D.C. 5911 16th St NW, Washington, DC 2001

The protest will target President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Ugandan lawmakers  with a request to withdraw the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, in its entirety.

The protest is being organized and sponsored by activists from the Kuchu Diaspora Alliance (KDA), a community of Ugandan LGBTQ people in the Diaspora.

The group is asking that you join them for this protest if you can, and that we all spread word.

It is time for us in the United States to show our support for those LGBT people in Uganda who are suffering increased violence, arrests and persecution.

Their message:

DROP THE ANTI-HOMOSEXUALITY ACT in its entirety

TELL President Museveni to keep his promise that “gays should not be persecuted or killed.”

TELL Uganda – LGBT Ugandans are responsible citizens who love their country, want to stay in their country, want to support their families, want to contribute to the growth of their country—just like other Ugandans. They have the right to be treated humanely. They have constitutional rights to be protected from discrimination.

The Anti-Homosexuality Act: Parliament resumes business February 18, 2014. On December 20, 2013 the Anti-Homosexuality bill, 2009 was passed by Parliament. It is believed that the Bill is now under review by President Museveni. The President is required by law to sign or respond to a bill within 30 days of receiving it. On December 28, 2013, President Museveni wrote a letter addressed to Uganda speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga expressing his dissatisfaction for manner in which the bill was passed. He cites lack of a quorum.

Arrests, violence and calls for violence against gays is on the rise in Uganda since the passage of the Bill. Many are in hiding and living in fear of its ultimate enactment.  Time is short and the international community must show solidarity with the Diaspora Kuchus who are taking the lead on this protest. Let us show we care!

PLEASE attend the Protests and if you have any questions please contact [email protected] and I will put you in touch with the organizers. https://www.facebook.com/events/1862525057221557/
