North Carolina Would Be Senator Has Ugandan Gay Blood on his hands

BLOOD ON HIS HANDS? Molotov Mitchell, 35, is the only Republican candidate running against Josh Stein for state senate in District 16.

By Melanie Nathan, March 19, 2014.

An ultra conservative filmmaker who questioned President Barack Obama’s U.S. citizenship and voiced support for Ugandan anti-homosexuality laws filed Thursday to run against N.C. Sen. Josh Stein of Raleigh. And what is worse he just does not care about persecuted people. Lest we forget his active participation back in 2010 in the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, then known as The Kill the Gays Bill.

And of course he is a proud Republican – Mr. Jason Mitchell – nicknamed ‘Molotov’ for good reason, will actually be listed on ballots under his nickname, Molotov Mitchell, in N.C. Senate District 16, which includes parts of West Raleigh, Cary and Morrisville.

Josh Stein, a Democrat, has held the seat for three terms and is also the Senate minority whip.

Mitchell made news nationally in 2010 when he posted a video in support of a Ugandan anti-homosexuality law that would have imposed the death penalty on violators. The video is now listed as “private” on YouTube, but a Huffington Post report included this quote from the film: “Like the great Dr. (Martin Luther) King told us, ‘the moral arm of the universe is long but it bends towards justice.’ Ugandans, stay on the right side of history.”

In a recent interview for INDY Week the would be State Senator was asked a question and answered to contradict his own history on the topic:

“You have a relationship with Martin Ssempa, the influential pastor behind Uganda’s anti-gay law.”

I have met Martin Ssempa and he was a very kind person. I didn’t know all of his political involvement, but he did a lot for orphans and gave a lot to charity, and so when I said he was a good person that’s what I was talking about. When it comes to Uganda, I really don’t care what laws they pass over there. And frankly, it’s a little bit irritating that people keep bringing it up as if we should still be interested in what’s going on in Uganda.

Stop asking about Uganda—who cares what Molotov Mitchell thinks about Uganda? The truth is, it’s not my country, and it’s not my business. And by the way, neither is Ukraine. What I’m focused on is beating a guy in District 16 who hasn’t gotten jack done for the people here.

Well he did seem interested in interfering when he promoted the Kill the Gays Video – now conveniently private.

I wonder how many people his posted video succeeded in influencing in Uganda?  The very people now mob hunting the gays in hiding, luring and assaulting gays, with the tacit license the new Anti-Homosexuality Act has provided.

I have a message for Mr Molokov – its time he educated himself or stopped feigning ignorance. What kind of Senator does not give a shit about the current persecution of other human beings?  In today’s parlance it is tantamount to calling Hitler a kind man and pretending to not know what he does! His failure to speak out against Ssempa’s much publicized rally cry against gays is nothing but a disgrace!

The truth – pretense and lack of solicitude so eloquently expressed is death… and Molotov with his anti-gay video lurking in the minds of Ugandans not only does not care but also has blood on his hands … The Man from MENSA may provide ignorance as his excuse – but should know better.

No person in their right mind should vote for a man with blood on his hands!
