PLEASE rally to demand Justice for Transgender murder victim Islan Nettles
New York, NY — Everything Transgender in NYC (ETNYC) is calling on advocates and activists for transgender justice and allies in the greater New York City area to rally at the courthouse for Islan Nettles, tomorrow, Thursday March 31, 2016 at 9 a.m.
Last year James Dixon, a 24-year-old Brooklyn man was indicted on manslaughter and felony assault charges for the August 2013 fatal beating of ISLAN NETTLES, a beloved 21-year-old black transgender woman from Harlem. Ms. Nettles’ alleged murderer has confessed several times to the killing. His trial commenced on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at 9 a.m.
ETNYC believes that if a lot of people show up to the rally it will demonstrate that New York City cares about justice in the trial of Ms. Nettles’ alleged murderer.
Activist Jennifer Louise Lopez from ETNYC notes:
Visibility is key and the public must see as many individuals rallying to show their support of our dearly departed sister-of-transgender-experience.
We also request that as many advocates and activists as possible be present in the courtroom to support Ms. Nettles and show the judge and the jury that the community cares about her. We will be adding support for her family in the courtroom as well.
We demand justice for Ms. Nettles.
James Dixon, who faces a maximum of 25 years in prison, has entered a not guilty plea, despite his confessions and despite being offered a sweet 13 year plea deal.
According to Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Viorst, the cause of death was as a result of 3 blows to Nettles’ face. She sustained fractures to her eye, nose, jaw and skull. Dixon confessed to several civilians, gave a written affidavit of confession to a police detective, confessed to the DA on video, and confessed to the Judge.

Here’s an idea: let’s just let each other the hell alone! We do not have the right to lay our hands on ANYONE in violence. Deal with it!!!!!!!
