According to local news outlet WGNTV, a small bomb exploded in the women’s bathroom at a Target store in Evanston, Illinois. This  seems to follow the controversy over Target’ s trans-friendly policy.The news station reports that no-one was harmed in the explosion, which occurred yesterday afternoon.

The explosion occurred Wednesday shortly after 4 p.m. at the store located in the 2200 block of Howard Street, according to police. WGNTV reports: “It caused minor damage and no one was injured. Early indications are that a plastic bottle was used but no projectiles like nails or tacks were inside it. Investigators are gathering evidence including examining store security camera video.”

Protesters have taken to disrupting Target stores, with antics such as people walking through the story screaming while waving bibles.  In one example a  woman and her brood of children walked through Target, waving a Bible while yelling at customers:  “the devil will rape your children”, a man speaking out against homosexual “abominations”.

It is unclear if the bomb is connected to the ongoing protests, although reports are emerging that a 44 year old woman has been taken into custody in connection with the incident:

UPDATE POLICE STATEMENT:  EVANSTON POLICE INVESTIGATE MINOR EXPLOSION INSIDE BATHROOM:

On Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at approximately 4:08 PM, the Evanston Police and Fire Departments were called to the Target Store in the 2200 block of Howard Street for a minor explosion that occurred in the women’s bathroom.  There were no reported injuries and the damage was confined to a stall inside the bathroom.  Police and Fire personnel secured the scene and requested assistance from the Cook County Bomb Squad prior to collecting any evidence.  A preliminary examination revealed the explosion may have initiated from a plastic bottle that was observed in the stall.  There were no threats or other suspicious activity prior to, or since the incident occurred.  

In the course of their investigation, detectives took a 44 year old female person of interest into custody.  The investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed.  The detectives are not currently looking for any known additional suspects and as this point there is no indication that the incident is related to any policies that the Target store has in place.  This release will be updated when new information is obtained.

Target says the sales losses due to the ‘boycott’ have been negligible, despite the continued harassment.

One must lay blame at the feet of the  anti-LGBT American Family Association which has led the high-profile boycott against Target’s trans-friendly bathroom policy for any violence they may result from their hateful and pointed tirade against Target.
