After Easter we broke a story here on OBLOGDEE calling out the Ugandan Catholic Bishop for anti-homosexuality remarks he made and his prior support of “The Kill the Gays Bill” which has now been enacted, to exclude the death penalty, but to include life in prison for gays. Now a petition, in Italian, has acquired over 5,000 signatures urging the Pope to take action against the Bishop.
The Petition, translated from Italian reads:
During Easter, the bishop Bishop Rt. Rev. Fr. Charles Wamika, urged ‘the faithful’ with these words: “Give your gay children to the authorities and your gesture will be rewarded in Heaven.” Not satisfied, referring to the history of the Catholic Church, the bishop also pointed out that often the force was used and blood was shed in order to “cleanse the earth.”
The Petition went on to remind that Ugandans have begun to hunt gays and that by preaching thus, the Bishop is in effect also supporting by the persecution instead of preaching love and acceptance, thereby submitting that he is working contrary to the teachings of the Church.
The petition notes:
We ask that Pope Francis asks the immediate resignation of Bishop Charles Ugandan Wamika the serious allegations contrary to the faith and in complete violation of international human rights.

I think this Pope will actually consider this. He is a Humanitarian like no other and has called many Catholic believers to the carpet on Human Rights issues. Please take time to read and sign if you would.
