Racist Vandalism at San Leandro Unified School District

On Monday morning of this week, employees of the San Leandro Unified School District apparently  arrived at work to see a disgusting and frightening display of racism, hate and bigotry.

I am not sure if this was reported to police or FBI, but it seems a source is concerned that nothing is going to be done to pursue an investigation and that people working there may be unsafe.

This was conveyed through a third party  and I did not have direct contact with his source.  The source has asked to remain anonymous due to fear of reprisal.  The source apparently says that the graffiti was cleaned up, but the event has been apparently “swept under the rug.”

There are apparently two African American employees working there and the source has concerns about their safety.

I have not verified any of this, beyond seeing this picture which I am uploading here.

Updated March 09, 7.00 PM: Police have verified this incident. Police have arrested a 21 year old man. Thanks to all who reported and have given this the serious attention it deserves.  Thanks to all the reporters who made contact with me after seeing me break this story here on OBLOGDEE.

Updated March 10, 2016: NBC News.

and ABC News.

  1. I’m a tad surprised and impressed, Melanie, that you’re even aware of, and cautious about, the question of sources.

    1. well now that’s a productive comment… lest we forget this is an advocacy blog where I take extreme bloggers license. I am NOT a journalist. So of course those with mega resources have time to investigate and work on verifying. In instances like this – I throw it out and then it can be seen- and whoever has the time and resources is welcome to delve further. Some of my “throwing it out” stories have led to great investigations and even awards by actual journalists. Its also interesting to throw things out in a questioning fashion which I also do at times – because it attracts sources who weigh in with information or great leads. I have often passed that stuff off to journalists or authorities as the case may be.
