Provincetown, MA – The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown are thrilled to announce their partnership with Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund in an effort to raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth homelessness, (homeless queer youth). The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown will produce several events throughout the year benefiting the True Colors Fund. Events include an online auction of Provincetown lodging and attractions, hosted by Charitybuzz, with all proceeds benefiting the True Colors Fund. The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown will focus attention on the True Colors Fund during Women’s Week 2016. This year’s 32nd annual women’s festival will offer attendees the chance to engage with the True Colors Fund through special events and information sessions on their programs. Women’s Week 2016 begins October 7 and ends October 16.
“As innkeepers, we have the honor of bringing comfort and care to our guests here in Provincetown, the most open community for LGBT people in the world. Our collective desire to support LGBT youth who are homeless or have experienced homelessness, strikes at the heart of our business mission and is a natural partnership for us,” said Lynn Mogell, Executive Director.
Co-founded by Cyndi Lauper, the True Colors Fund works to end homelessness among LGBT youth, creating a world in which young people can be their true selves. The True Colors Fund is focused on raising public awareness, advocating within government, conducting research, working collaboratively with young people, and organizing communities to develop solutions to prevent and end LGBT youth homelessness.
“Provincetown is the Emerald City for the LGBT community and shows the beauty of how people of all backgrounds and identities can live, work, and play in an environment that allows them to be their true selves. We’re honored to team up with the Women Innkeepers of Provincetown to raise awareness about the disproportionate number of LGBT youth who experience homelessness, and to collaborate on new ways to end this problem,” said Lauper.
In America, up to 40 percent of the 1.6 million youth that are homeless each year identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Yet, only up to seven percent of the general youth population is LGBT. The most cited reason for this disproportionate rate is family rejection due to the young person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown is the only independent professional organization providing resources and strategies to women-owned b&bs, inns, guest houses & hotels located in Provincetown, Massachusetts. To better serve the public, increase visibility for women-owned businesses in Provincetown and help build robust year-round economic opportunities, the organization works with town boards, business associations, and trade organizations to actively network and market the organization’s member businesses and Provincetown.
