Melanie Nathan, opining:
President Barack Obama, today delivered a brilliant speech to the 2009 graduating class at Notre Dame. He is an consumate strategist; he used the conflict surrounding his presence as an opportunity to explain the importance of opening the door to fair mindedness, and the need for open hearts and minds to effectuuate dialogue.
His ‘tackle-it-head-on” approach reflects his own openess – a salutory example of ture leadership presenting in words and actions alike.
He placed a different slant on what can be done about abortion through reflecting on the numbers, the support for pregnant mothers and the ease on adoption methods.
Given the controversy I was amazed at the reception which was exceedingly welcoming. What a truly great man this is and so I prefer to reflect on the fact that the honesty and courage this President displayed will indeed continue to “change hearts and minds” as it did today. In accepting the deserved honorary doctoral degree he embraced the protest reflecting on its positive attributes. He is a great leader. If you did not hear the speech I encourage tyou to wait for you tube.
