Rallies Across the United States for Marriage Equality

You MUST come OUT and Rally for Marriage Equality | Let the SCOTUS Justices hear your voice | Join United for Marriage: Light the Way to Justice in rallying for equality!

By: Cathy Kristofferson and Melanie Nathan

LtJ_46statesOn March 26th and 27th, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in two cases, respectively,  which are fundamentally about whether same-sex couples, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans should have the same rights and freedoms as everyone else.  The Supreme Court (SCOTUS) will make rulings by June, on whether or not it is constitutional for the federal government to deny a minority of U.S. citizens’ rights and privileges under the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and whether or not to uphold the decision striking down Prop 8, where a majority of Californians voted to take rights away from a targeted minority.

Do you realize how important your presence at an event or rally is, this March 2013?

The LGBT community and supporters are planning events nationwide, to rally in support of marriage equality and full equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, while many thousands plan to converge on Washington D.C.

Counter protests by NOM and others opposing marriage equality are also expected and so it is very important that the gay community turn out in force.

LtJwhereWillYouBeMost of America is  supportive of equal rights for gay Americans and for marriage equality, yet a few Justices of the Supreme Court will decide our fate.  It is a known fact that the SCOTUS Justices are swayed by the populace and the evolution of our culture. Coming OUT to rally at the steps of SCOTUS or at an event in your own town will show them that we are numerous and that we want our rights.  Your voice must be heard this month.

It is imperative that on March 25, 26 and 27 you attend an event that has been organized by the LGBTI coalition, United for Marriage.  No gay person, LGBTQI, or ally should fail to attend a rally.  The opposition, as organized by gay haters, NOM, will try and drown our voice. They are busing people for free from all over to D.C..   Please be there to stand up for our rights.

WEAR RED!

This could be the most important series of events in our LGBTI history. The two cases being heard have implications that reach beyond marriage equality, as the court will consider whether these laws violate the LGBT community’s U.S. Constitutional guarantee of equal protection under the law.

EVENTS:

United For Marriage: Light the Way to Justice – a large coalition of equality organizations, including GetEQUAL, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and Marriage Equality USA along with many faith and justice organizations – is coordinating all of the events leading up to the Supreme Court hearings of March 26th  and 27th for Prop 8 and DOMA challenges along with the events happening in Washington D.C. on the two days of the hearings.

Currently there are over 150 local events – candlelight vigils, rallies, speaking events, interfaith services – scheduled in 46 States plus more in Washington D.C. in support of marriage equality.

And as soon as events are scheduled in the Dakotas, Maine and Rhode Island the entire country will have ‘come out’ for marriage equality. Please come back for updates!

Join us in Washington DC for a rally outside of the Supreme Court at 8:30am ET on March 26 and 27 – and our associated Interfaith Service and Passover Seder on 26th. Wear red to show your support for marriage equality!
