President Obama is on his way to Johannesburg, on his tour of Africa. The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Soweto Campus will be one of the stops for United States President Barack Obama when he visits South Africa this week. President Barack Obama will visit UJ on Saturday, 29 June 2013 to lead a Young African Leaders Initiative meeting with an invited delegation of students.
The President’s first Africa stop was in Senegal. We reported that President Barack Obama, on Thursday, praised the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage as a “victory for American democracy” and even called the Prop 8 and DOMA Plaintiff’s to congratulate them while he was on board Air Force One heading out to Africa. However AP has reported that his Senegal host was not too impressed and had quite the opposite view in a report entitled “Obama clashes with African host over gay rights:” http://oblogdeeoblogda.me/2013/06/27/obama-clashes-with-senegal-president-over-gay-rights/
TOMORROW at 4:35 pm local time, President Obama will engage with young African leaders from across the continent in a live broadcast event from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, at its Soweto Campus.
Some of the students and young leaders attending are anticipating engaging with Barack Obama about issues concerning the youth. President Obama will address the delegation in Soweto, a part of South Africa which is now symbolic of tourism, culture, and a growing middle-class. UJ will be streaming this historic event live from Soweto on Saturday to keep you updated about Barack Obama and his visit.

Ugandans can watch LIVE on NTV Uganda as 10 Ugandan youth, gathered in Kampala and participating via satellite, ask the president about his vision for Africa. Watch the livestream at http://goo.gl/DCzvN.
Let us hope that the President will speak to the youth about homophobia and the rights and dignity of all Africans to include LGBTI people. Hopefully the organizations have included LGBTI represented youth. We will keep you posted.
It is unknown at this time whether or not President Obama will meet with ailing former President Nelson Mandela, who is hospitalized in Pretoria, which is a 30 minute drive from Johannesburg.
