We Belong Together and allies are turning up the heat in Washington DC!
By Cathy Kristofferson, September 12, 2013
As I write this more than 100 women are being arrested in front of the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. They are part of a mass civil disobedience action calling on Congress to pass immigration reform that treats women fairly.
From We Belong Together:
September 12, 2013
Right now, 100 women, including moms, grandmothers and undocumented immigrants are preparing to risk arrest for immigration reform that keeps families together and treats women fairly. This includes 25 undocumented women, a number We Belong Together believes represents the highest number of undocumented women willingly risking arrest for the cause of fair immigration reform.
As you read this, these courageous women are forming a circle and getting ready to take over the intersection outside the House of Representatives.
The direct action participants are a coalition of women activists and immigrants including the LGBTQ rights groups GetEQUAL and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force:
Won’t you join them, and us at OBLOGDEE, in We Belong Together’s call to action:
Show your support by calling and urging the House of Representatives to pass immigration reform that treats women fairly right now.
Call right now to tell the House to stand up for women’s equality. When you call tell your representative:
- I am part of We Belong Together;
- I stand with the 100 women risking arrest for immigration reform that treats women fairly and keeps families together;
- I urge you to lead the way for immigration reform that treats women fairly and keeps families together;
- Thank you for your courage on this important issue.
On behalf of the 100 women risking arrest today, thank you for taking 3 minutes to call today.
Read the press release and sign the petition here calling on Speaker Boehner to STAND UP for comprehensive immigration reform.
