Our allies such as Senator Schumer have lost their backbones. We are out in the trenches doing our part. We are calling and writing and faxing while politicians such as Schumer are talking out of both sides of their mouths. Now push comes to shove we are nothing more than the fat which can be trimmed from this legislation in order to make it less explosive and easier for blue dog Democrats as well as Republicans to “deal with.”
If there is any shred of good news this week it comes from the future demise of, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Why this supposedly will take a full year is beyond me. It has been law and for nineteen years. Seventeen other countries already have this in place. Can our military not learn anything from other countries where this is already a non-issue? With the demise of, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will come new immigration opportunities for foreign partners of American military men and women. Let’s remember all the WWII “war brides” our fathers brought back to the U.S.A. from countries all over the world. This will soon apply to lesbian and gay soldiers stationed overseas. My frustration lies in just how long?
And what about members of the LGBT Community that are not in the military and need help for their foreign born partners to legally immigrate here now?
Senator Schumer has been a staunch supporter of the LGBT Community for years. How much longer will Democratic Politicians tell us they will go to bat for us on such important life affecting issues and when the time comes, they retreat. Cowards.
