Screen Shot 2014-08-05 at 3.29.25 PMNEW YORK – On August 6, human rights activists from across the globe will protest against the Jamaican government’s continuing inaction on repealing the anti-LGBT buggery law.

There will be a protest at the Jamaican Consulate in New York, 767 Third Avenue (at East 48th Street) at 12 noon on August 6th. I hope if you are in the area you make an effort to go.
This action will coincide with Jamaica’s Independence Day to send a powerful message that the colonial-era law has no place in any modern society.  Recently discussions around repealing the law have led to a ramping up of homophobia, culminating in a mass rally against the “homosexual agenda” in Kingston in June.
Protests will also be held at the Jamaican Consulate in Toronto and at the Jamaican High Commission in London
Thanks to groups who are organizing the event:

Jamaica Anti-Homophobia Stand
Caribbean Alliance for Equality
Out & Proud Diamond Group
Dwayne’s House
Global Justice Institute, Metropolitan Community Churches
