Jews to Stage A Trump Walk Out at AIPAC

When I heard Trump was going to be speaking at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference (AIPAC ) I was mad as hell. I could not understand why Jews, conservative or liberal,  would allow the venom spewing monster,  who has mostly attracted low life KKK Nazi types as supporters, to speak at their annual conference.

I then read two articles which put me at ease – in the first it noted that AIPAC was compelled by law to invite Trump, a concomitant of their non profit status, where they are required to give equal opportunity to all political candidates. As it happens Trump was self righteous and pompous enough to accept the invitation. And here is why this is now going to be fun:

I picture Trump walking onto the AIPAC stage with that smug sanguine countenance ready to defecate, yet again, on the valued magnificence of our diverse America . And as he is about to speak,  I notice that smile reluctantly return to its petulant anal shape, as an entire hall filled with Jews, simultaneously stand up, turning their collective backs,  only to storm out of the hall. Trump is stunned and is left yelling “But the Jews love me… But the Jews love me… ”

Here is what Liel Leibovitz so eloquently suggests, noting that this is an opportunity for us Jews, whether conservative or liberal, to come together in the spirit of Judaism and to reject that which Trump espouses: “When Trump walks in lets all walk out!”

Indeed a mass walkout, rather than a boycott, is the only way to kick a misogynistic megalomaniac narcissist in the crotch to bring him down.

Leibovitz notes:

“Trump gives us a chance to come together over a very basic principle and say that as Jews—secular and religious, Democrats and Republicans, poets and podiatrists—we feel compelled by the very tenets of our faith to reject a man who lacks any respect for the very principles of pluralism that have made this country such a welcoming home for Jews and have allowed us to thrive here for more than two centuries.”

And Leibovitz correctly concludes:

“…there’s one symbolic action we can, and must, take: when Trump swaggers on to the podium Monday night, let us leave. Not one or two but all of us, not a trickle but a torrent. Let him speak to an empty room, and let the cable news channels carrying the latest Trump spectacle marvel that one group of Americans—not particularly large, not particularly influential—had the courage to say enough to this shameful circus of lies and violence, turn its back, literally, to this dangerous demagogue, and walk out. This gesture may mean nothing. But it may inspire other Americans, liberal or conservative or anything in between, and it will remind us all that somewhere, obscured by talk of delegates and endorsements and big walls and short fingers and other trivialities, the better angels of our nature—to borrow a phrase from a real Republican—quietly stand, waiting for us to turn to them once again and, once again, make America great.”

And then further endorsing this idea, Cnn reports that several groups of rabbis and Jewish religious leaders are planning to protest Donald Trump’s speech at the major pro-Israel conference which is being held in Washington D.C. on Monday, accusing the presidential candidate of encouraging hatred:

Rabbis David Paskin and Jesse Olitzky organized one such campaign, called Come Together Against Hate, a play on the conference’s theme of “Come Together.”

The pair and their allies have created a website and Facebook group to organize a protest that they say is not designed to disrupt AIPAC but to signal their condemnation of Trump.

“This is not about policies, this is not about parties, this is about one particular person, Donald Trump, who has encouraged and incited violence at his campaign rallies,” said Paskin, a rabbi in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. “We are against the hatred, the incitement of hatred, the ugliness that has engulfed this political season.”

Paskin has organized a group of more than 300 rabbis, cantors and Jewish voters and professionals who plan to signal their distaste for Trump on Monday. He estimated that almost of all of those individuals will be at AIPAC.

Also The Union for Reform Judaism, representing the largest Jewish denomination in America, put out a statement slamming Trump.

At every turn, Mr. Trump has chosen to take the low road, sowing seeds of hatred and division in our body politic,” said the URJ while noting that it doesn’t endorse candidates.

The American Jewish Committee, another large Jewish organization, put out a statement condemning “presidential campaign violence,” though it did not specifically name Trump.

“We do not draw analogies to the rise of communism and fascism lightly, but both of those tyrannical movements rose to power replacing democratically elected governments, by virtue of threats of, or actual, violence against their opponents,” the AJC said.

Come Together Against Hate’s plan is to either skip the speech altogether or silently walk out after Trump is introduced, then assemble outside and study Jewish scripture about what Paskin called the “opposite” of Trump — love and decency.

“We’re hoping thousands of people will join us in that protest,” Paskin said. “We’re going to be providing the antidote, we believe, to what Donald Trump is espousing.”

So to all my friends who will be at AIPAC this year  I hope that you  do attend the Trump speech, and that you help me realize my fantasy:

– ‘Trump walks in – you stand – turn your backs – and you walk out’  –   and when you do  please remember that you are not only walking out on Trump, but also on those Trump surrogates and supporters – those adorning KKK hoods at his rallies, those who sucker punch African Americans, those who scream “go back to Auschwitz,” as well as those who yell to people of color “go back to Africa.”

  1. Melanie I get the impression you do not like Donald Trump. Well you have a lot of company. Besides being an overt bigot, he is a bombastic, egotistical chest pumper. He has not the slightest polish or subtlety. Every time he opens his mouth he offends. He has no experience in and very limited knowledge of government, economics or foreign relations. He proposes simplistic one dimensional, bull in-a-china shop solutions to complex problems. Foreign leaders cringe at his name. He is a demagogue who plays on the fears and ignorance of his audience. I guess I don’t like him either.

  2. He is smug and eletist, but I fear more for your Isreal if Hillary gets the presidency. Iran is bigger threat then a USA lead by Trump surely. The same reprehensible tone Trump uses you are using. It is the hate on both sides. Do you honestly think Obama is supporting Isreal? I do not know what will happen, but if the young Jewish boy did see heaven, we make meet our maker soon. I pray that we all can unite around love rather than hate.

    1. I am confident that Hillary will be a great President and that she will support Israel as fully as she has done before and even trust that her support will be robust. I think Obama has done okay considering the hand he was been dealt. I am more fearful for Israel with any war mongering Republican who can so easily ignite the match that ignites the entire ME. I think Israle will be just fine with Hillary and people should stop touting this Israel fear nonsense.
