I’m on my way to UAFA

UCSF TALK IMMIGRATION PANEL.jpg extra copy.jpgmel headshotI am leaving tomorrow for D.C. to attend the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing convened by Senator Leahy.   I will be blogging on a daily basis, albeit cryptic (perhaps.)   I believe and of course stand to be corrected that the Republican members of the committee are only obligated to be present for 15 minutes.   I don’t get it; if witnesses are there providing testimony, so that a case can be made for or against the legislation, one would think all the Senators would WANT to hear for themselves or at least show some courtesy to poeple who are impacted and courageous enough to testify.  Well the ranking GOP clearly is anti-gay with his known and much publicized remarks comparing Gays to Pedophiles.   This will be interesting. SO wish us all luck and will be reporting soon…….. In solidarity until we get that last of the 1,038 rights!, Melanie Nathan

    Melanie,

The Infinite Wisdom of God’s Universe has opened it’s doorway for you, Shirley and Jay, and their children, to travel to Washington, DC to represent tens of thousands of human beings like me, who live alone thousands of miles away from our loved ones, in exile, or in legal limbo. From South African apartheid to the last stand of America’s apartheid.

You and everyone attending the Uniting American Families Act hearing on the 3rd, will be in the prayers of thousands, if not millions of people!

    Dima and I thank you!

    Melanie,

Wishing you the very best of luck for June 3rd. I am really hoping that despite the Republicans being negative, that they will stay and hear the truths. Present immigration laws hurt us all badly and deeply. I hope you will get to speak for us.

    G-d bless you,

    David and Dan

    Dear Melanie,
I am also wishing you luck. Your work is very much appreciated. I am another US citizen living in Europe due to discriminatory US immigration laws. I do not, will not and cannot leave my same-sex partner of 9 years now….however, we both want to return to California.

Please help us win this fight!

I will be watching anxiously this webcast…..We are all hopeful around the world and back at home that we can obtain equality…they can take all the time they want for gay marriage discussions, court cases lost and won….BUT we do not want to wait any longer on immigrations equality! We want to move home…we miss the USA….Good luck!

    Best regards,
James Ashburn, US citizen in exile
    Amsterdam, The Netherlands
