Washington, D.C. – Today the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) announced that CNN’s Soledad O’Brien and HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell will co-host the 17th annual New York Benefit. “Headlines & Headliners” will take place on Thursday, March 29, 2012, from 6:30-9:30pm at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams store in SoHo. CNN and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams are the lead sponsors of this year’s benefit.
“Headlines & Headliners continues to be one of the premiere media events in New York City every year. We are incredibly pleased to have Soledad O’Brien and Jane Velez-Mitchell to host our New York benefit,” said NLGJA Executive Director, Michael Tune. “The benefit prides itself on building strong connections among our members and supporters who believe in a diverse newsroom and fair & accurate coverage of the LGBT community.”
At the benefit, Soledad O’Brien and Jane Velez-Mitchell will present NLGJA’s seventh Leroy F. Aarons scholarship award. Each year, NLGJA awards a scholarship to an undergraduate or graduate student who plans a career in journalism and is committed to further NLGJA’s mission of fair & accurate coverage of the LGBT community. The scholarship was established in 2005 to honor Aarons, the organization’s founder and a pioneering journalist.
Each year, the event draws more than 300 journalists, media professionals, educators, students and allies. For more information or tickets to “Headlines & Headliners,” visit: www.nlgja.org/news/NYE2012.htm.
