As a guest of The Black AIDS Institute, The South African Gold Coin Exchange was represented at Emmy Award-winning casting director and talent executive Robi Reed’s 10th annual end-of-summer event, the “Sunshine Beyond Summer Celebration…The Day Party With A Purpose” this past Saturday in the gardens of the Mayor’s home, at The Getty House in Los Angeles, California.
Attending the event, one of the most highly-coveted invites in the entertainment industry,on behalf of The South African Gold Coin Exchange, was human rights activist Melanie Nathan, who provided guests with Nelson Mandela silver plated coin tokens, to mark the newly launched limited edition Nelson Mandela HIV/AIDS medallions.
The Mandela Medallions, the first of its kind to be launched in the U.S.A. raises AIDS/HIV awareness, promotes the legacy of former South African President Nelson Mandela and benefits the Mandela Foundation, the Nobel Institute and HIV/AIDS charities.
Amongst the many celebrities and business executives who received tokens bearing the image of Nelson Mandela, was TV Star Niecy Nash, reality stars Jennifer Williams and Kita Williams and Olympic silver medalist & volleyball player Destinee Hooker .
Reed, whose annual event has benefited the Black AIDS Institute for the past 9 years, launched her non-profit organization, the Reed For Hope Foundation (RFHF), which aims to raise awareness, gather resources, and build alliances with other charities and organizations in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.
The charitable beneficiary of the 2012 SBS Celebration is the Black AIDS Institute which has also partnered with The South African Gold Coin Exchange to benefit from the sales of the new limited Mandela HIV/AIDS medallions, known as the Red Ribbon Twin Set .
Reed recognized honorees at the event, with special awards being presented to Phill Wilson (Black AIDS Institute), Sonya Lockett (BET’s Rap-It-Up campaign), Jennifer Hopson (American Heart Association), Cynthia Carey-Grant (Women Organized to Respond to Life-Threatening Disease), and the Honorable Judge Greg Mathis.
