Hate Group Leader Visits CA Coastal Community Under Protection of Republican Women’s Group

1AngryOldLesbian.org puts spotlight on Brad Dacus and Pacific Justice Institute

Update: Event photos below

morrobayAn otherwise idyllic year-round vacation spot became host today to a fear mongering, falsehood generating, anti-LGBT hate group—The Pacific Justice Institute and its President, Brad Dacus—speaking at the Estero Bay Republican Women Federated luncheon at the Morro Bay Golf Course, the poor man’s Pebble Beach.

Fortuitously, a member of 1AngryOld Lesbian.org is vacationing at the same California coastal community and spent some of her valuable downtime to help the town give Mr. Dacus a proper welcome.

Before we share the “fun”, let’s help refresh your memory about Mr. Dacus’ and Pacific Justice Institute’s “illustrious” past and present, unfortunately:

Pacific Justice Institute has been deemed a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

dacusBrad is best known for things like serving as a spokesperson for Prop 8, comparing stopping marriage equality to stopping the Nazis,  defending a pastor who said gay people are abominations who deserve to be stoned to death, referring to a law protecting transgender students as “hideous;” claiming it will lead to “many casualties”, and turn CA schools “into a horror film”, fabricating a story about a transgender teenager harassing other students, fighting a law designed to protect LGBT people from hate crimes (the same way others, including religious people, are protected), calling it “unjust,” “unnecessary,” and “unwise.”  A basic all-around hatemonger.

Now that you have the picture, let’s share some fun:

During the week prior to Brad’s visit, a “press release” (yes, that is in quotes), was issued from the Estero Bay Republican Women Federated entitled “Estero Bay Republican Women Welcome Prop8 Proponent and Hate Group Leader”, quoting President Sandi Tannler as she commends Dacus:

Brad and the Pacific Justice Institute continue to stand up for our right to discriminate, masterfully masquerading, convincing America it is our “religious liberty” at stake, not just our ancestral desire to practice xenophobia, homophobia, and all the “isms” of our choosing.”

The press release is here.

In addition to local media, 1Angry helped publicize the event for the Federated Women by dropping off releases at the area County Supervisor, Bruce Gibson’s office, and to the office of Republican State Assemblyman Katcho Achadijian who happens to be running for Congressional Equality Caucus member, Lois Capps’ seat (Yikes! Send money to his opponent!).

Additionally, “invitation posters” (yes, that’s quotes, again) entitled “We Love to Hate”, including the names of the five Board members were displayed in Board members neighborhoods and around the community.

2715On Tuesday, a three minute (as mandated but way too short for the subject) public comment, “Something is Rotten in Paradise” was made before the County Board of Supervisors demanding this hate group and others not have access to taxpayer funded facilities (the county manages the golf course for the State).

Discussions were had with the Park & Rec Dept. but they resulted in the ridiculous idea that if employees of the Golf Course who are protected by both non-discrimination and harassment ordinances felt harassed, why they should just ask for the day off!

So folks are talking, calls have been made to the Republican women, and they just don’t understand why people are so upset. This morning the New Times quotes Sandi Tannler, the Republican Women Federated Chapter President saying “People who haven’t heard him say he is a hate monger, but after they listened to him they walk away saying, ‘Hey he’s a good guy.’”

Really Sandi? I’m sure there are lots of people who think folks are “good guys”, even while they engage in genocide, raping of the environment, war-mongering and other pillaging behaviors like say Dick Cheney but they are just not people anyone is interested in anymore… well, except by last gasp “religious liberty” folks clinging to dreams of legalized bigotry like you!

Today’s Shredder column (who had published great commentary of Ted Cruz’s visit to the county earlier this year) summed it up best with:

Hey, if these Republican women want to eat salmon salad while listening to a pious Christian man bloviate about why it’s perfectly OK to strip gays of their rights, they should! Because freedom!

The Federated Women’s luncheon is later today. If you’re in the neighborhood, maybe you can still make it, just give Gayle Bickford a call. Her number is right on the press release…

  1. Facts ABOUT DUCAS from GLAAD website-

    — While serving as a spokesperson for Prop 8, compared stopping marriage equality to stopping the Nazis: “There was another time in history when people, when the bell tolled. And the question was whether or not they were going to hear it. The time was during Nazi Germany with Adolf Hitler. You see he brought crowds of clergy together to assure them that he was going to look after the church. And one of the members, bold and courageous, Reverend Niemand made his way to the front and (inaudible) said “Hitler, we are not concerned about the church. Jesus Christ will take care of the church. We are concerned about the soul of Germany.’ Embarrassed and chagrined, his peers quickly shuffled him to the back. And as they did Adolf Hitler said, ‘The soul of Germany, you can leave that to me.’ And they did, and because they did bombs did not only fall upon the nation of Germany, but also upon the church and their testimony to this very day. Let us not make that mistake folks. Let us hear the bell! Vote on Proposition 8!”

    — In one of the first cases to earn him public attention, Dacus defended a pastor who said gay people are abmoinations who deserve to be stoned to death

    — Using junk science, claims that homosexuality is more dangerous than cigarette smoking: “[P]arents know that the homosexual lifestyle gives for boys an average lifespan of the age of 40. It’s worse than being a chain cigarette smoker.”

    — Refers to law protecting transgender students as “hideous;” claims it will lead to “many casualties”

    — Says a law designed to protect transgender students will turn CA schools “into a horror film”

    — Prays for LGBT people to be freed from “Satan’s dominion”

    — His organization fabricated a story about a transgender teenager harassing other students; when story broke, Dacus accused those challenging his organization’s version of events of “trying to supress the truth”

    — Asserts that marriage equality for same-sex couples could lead to incestuous unions: “If the Supreme Court rules that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional and that the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman is unconstitutional, then we’re basically going to have an open heyday for homosexual marriage as well as other kinds of ‘marriage’ being introduced and being protected through this case law precedent, such as polygamy, perhaps adult incest and who knows what else will be attempted to be added on.”

    — Equates LGBT-inclusive curriculum with bullying, writing: Most parents do not want their first through fifth graders bombarded with pro-homosexual messages at school. If LGBT advocates really want to stop name-calling and bullying, they should start with themselves.”

    — Claims that by fighting for a marriage system that discriminates against same-sex couples, he is “fighting for the soul of Western civilization”

    — Launched website called “GenderInsanity.com,” which fights transgender protections in schools and gay inclusion in Boy Scouts; says of the site: “Forcing boys and girls to share bathrooms, locker rooms and sleeping arrangements is not equality; it is insanity.”

    — Says if America is to remain compassionate and loving, “then we’re not going to want to salute something that is so dangerous and so destructive statistically to so many people who decide to engage in it.”

    — A strong supporter of scientifically-discredited “ex-gay” therapy, claims that over 80% of those who enter into this kind of therapy ultimately “change”: “I know it’s at least over 80%, I believe it’s 80-85% success rate. These are people who leave the lifestyle, get married to people, have children, and enter heterosexual relationships. It’s a big mass of deception that they are trying to carry out at the expense of many hundreds of thousands or millions of youths who will be led down a path of death and destruction, unfortunately, if they get away with this”

    — Claimed a law designed to limit scientifically-discredited “ex-gay” counseling is “a gross and outrageous violation against humanity”

    — Co-authored (with his wife) a document called “Reclaim Your School,” which is strongly geared toward stopping LGBT acceptance in public schools

    — Says LGBT leaders lead kids “into a path of death and destruction” (@ 14:30)

    — Claims LGBT History month is meant to make society and kids “numb” about “the lifestyle” of homosexuality; adds that the month is meant to “market homosexuality as acceptable, valid lifestyles”

    — Falsely claimed that LGBT History month “promotes gay porn to kids”

    — Warns of the “flooding” of marriage-bound gays: “Massachusetts becomes the ‘sicker patient in the hospital,’ by far, if we in California are successful in amending our state constitution as, once again, between one man and one woman,” said Dacus. “Massachusetts will then be the place, instead of California, where homosexual couples fly to…get married….[T]hat’s just a major leak in the dam that’s got to be patched up…if we’re going to keep a major flooding of the homosexual agenda from being poured out on all the states across the country,” he warns.

    — Fought law designed to protect LGBT people from hate crimes (the same way others, including religious people, are protected), calling it “unjust,” “unneccesary,” and “unwise”

    — Served as counsel for a parent who tried to have a public school teacher fired simply because she led a classroom discussion on the coming-out episode of the TV show Ellen

  2. Hate in the name of Republican leadership – This group of Republican women are hosting a hater -with the help of Morro Bay Golf Club operated by State Parks!!!! – Pawns or complicit – as the #GOP women of the Central Coast use events like this to “register voters” endorsing wedge issues – and purportedly in the name of their mission statement, which notes: ” IF you are concerned for your family and your country, you can help both by supporting the party that does the most to promote the principles of freedom, quality, and justice.” Seriously Republicans? – they could not get away with EQUALITY – so they hide behind the rhythmical – “quality” instead!

  6. Good post. I learn something new and challenging
on sites I stumbleupon on a daily basis. It’s always exciting to
read through content from other writers and use something from other
    sites.
