06/02/2011, by Melanie Nathan, SACRAMENTO – Eleven bills authored by Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) – the openly gay California State Senator from San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma Counties- passed the Senate this week and will proceed to the Assembly. The measures include legislation that allows farmers in California to cultivate hemp, a bill that […]
I AM HERE WITH YOU IN THAT FIGHT and yet I give as much as the law allows?
I was skeptical about President Obama’s speech and yet hopeful. The short version of this post is that I was generally pleased. Of course I could highlight what was left out and the uncertainties that remain for our full equality, yet my ‘glass half full’ beckons and I succumb! Admittedly, the strongest language yet from […]
AJR 15 -California on its way in Support of UAFA
Today, together with Gina Capiro, I had the great honor of providing testimony on behalf of the thousands of binational same-sex partners, for Resolution AJR 15 which in essence will serve to provide California‘s legislature’s support of the Uniting American Families Act and equality in the immigration laws of the US, for same-sex permanent partners. A […]
PRESIDENT OBAMA I HEARD DADT, DOMA, ETC
BUT I DID NOT HEAR UAFA – Uniting American Familes Act President Obama mentioned many an issue on his agenda for LGBT equality today at his meeting with a group of LGBT leaders – but failed to address Immigation Equality. This is not a good sign. I believe the activists for UAFA need a strategy. Ditching DOMA […]
I do not work for the Federal government and
This token offering is just that; it serves only to highlight what he has NOT done for all the LGBT community
DOMA – DECLARE OBAMA MISSING in ACTION
I just received an email addressed probably to all of President Obama’s supporters asking for support on health care. I am not lending my suupport to anything until I get the promised repeal of DOMA. As selfish as it sounds, I am sick of our community being taken for granted. Use us and then abuse […]
California Supreme Court ruling on Proposition 8 Statement from California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton : “Today’s decision, while heartbreaking, doesn’t end the historic struggle for marriage equality. It renews our dedication to making sure all California families can again enjoy the dignity, commitment and responsibility of marriage. I commend the California Supreme Court for […]

Update Shirley Tan Deportation- out of options
On April 10th, Shirley Tan received good news and bad news on her rollercoaster ride to or from permanence in the USA. Shirley received notice from the BIA that a deportation order was re-issued giving her 30 days to voluntarily leave the USA. The good news is the admittance that the prior order was not […]

Feels like my entire life depends on 4 hours of alienable argument
The Court has taken the matter as submitted. Prop 8 is on the decision block. It seemed to me by listening to the questions of the esteemed Justices that proposition 8 may go through as valid. I feel despondent. Although I thought Ms. Stewart’s argument was articulate and clear and its jurisprudential profundity seemed to outweigh that of the opponent.
Today is my daughter’s 4th Birthday and she deserves a NO on 8
Our little one turns 4 today. She deserves the recognition and respect that all other children have when it comes to rights for her parents. She is a fact of life and she has the right to be acknowledged by the law…
